Hi, I’m excited to share this write up as it is my very first Treat! – where I’ll write about, and share recipes, methods and techniques I have learned from making soooo many mistakes, and various mentors over the years.
As you know I’ve shared two Tales – where I wrote about my experience as a baker find the links below.
https://treatlane.com/tales/cake-pricing-and-all-its-friends/ and https://treatlane.com/tales/how-to-become-a-self-taught-baker/
In this post I’m going to be sharing how to make a realistic looking sugar flower – Rose, without using any special tools or flower cutters. All you’ll need are a rolling pin (or a wine bottle *winks*), and a cellophane wrapper.
When I first started making cakes I didn’t think much about decorating them… I just wanted to eat freshly baked cakes and that’s all! but when I got interested in taking cake making on to the commercial level I decided I had to learn how to make the whole Shabang! Making sugar flowers was at the top of my list because wedding cake requests would usually come with some sort of floral arrangement on them. I started searching Youtube and all I could find were videos with the tutor using several sophisticated looking tools that I didn’t even know where or how to find at the time. I started searching for other options and I finally decided to seek help from a mentor who’s work I admired from afar. She showed me how to make simple sugar flowers like the rose using just a rolling pin and my fingers (like wow!)… aunty Ade, She’s such a talent!
I learned very quickly and over the years have fine-tuned my skill into making my sugar flowers look even more realistic and believable, and I’m going to show you exactly how I do it.
Check out the below video, leave a comment and let me know if you tried it and how it turned out. You can also tag me on instagram @treatlane and share pictures!.
